TheUrgy
Published by Derek under Personal on March 3, 2010This collaboration of Jaclyn Hochreiter, Lisa Pellegrino, and Derek LaBrie is what we call TheUrgy. We are an experimental folk band of folks who love to make music and good vibes. Our band is still in its infancy, but we hope to play out in the coming months.
For now here are a few samples of our originals. We recorded them all live in our music making room with the built-in mic from my computer (if you were wondering about the quality).
Download Shewn the Shine
Probably my favorite song we play, Shewn the Shine was co-written by Lisa Pellegrino and me back in 2008. It’s a feel good dance-tastic song that always brings a smile to my face. It features Lisa Pellegrino on guitar/vocals, Jaclyn Hochreiter on vocals/percussion, and me on piano/vocals. Click here for the lyrics.
Download Wicklow
This piece was started by Lisa Pellegrino and I in the back yard of our friends’ house from a variation of a piece we wrote in college. It fetures her on vocals/guitar, Jaclyn Hochreiter on glockenspiel/vocals, and me on penny whistle/synth/vocals. It’s one of our slower songs about love and death. Click here for the lyrics.
Download Speck
This song was just a little piano riff until it was brought to TheUrgy. Now it’s a story of a young meteor and it’s journey into the unknown. It features the band in it’s usual set up with Lisa Pellegrino on guitar/vocals, Jaclyn Hochreiter on vocals/percussion, and me on piano/vocals. Click here for the lyrics.
Download Going Somewhere
Yet another feel good song written by Lisa Pellegrino about the simple struggles in life. I love jamming to this song and singing the chorus over and over. This was one of our first sessions recording this song and are still working out the kinks. This song features Lisa Pellegrino on guitar/vocals, Jaclyn Hochreiter on vocals, and me on piano/vocals. Click here for the lyrics.
Download Lights Out
Our first improvisation as well as a piece we all admire for it’s simple beauty. Feturing Lisa Pellegrino on ukulele, Jaclyn Hochreiter on vocals, and me on piano/vocals. We play this piece to bring that peace of mind back after a long day and as the title says it’s played with the lights out.
