My Music
Published by Derek under Personal on September 11, 2007Here’s a list of all my music starting with the most current. If you are listening to my music for the first time I suggest closing your eyes and silencing your mind. If it is possible listen while the world around you has slowed in pace. Enjoy!
Download The Laramie Project Improvisation
This improvisation is in response to an original music request by Bad Habit Productions. BAD, on December 5th through the 14th, is producing The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman. Having experienced first hand the magnitude of the play and after reading the first act I sat down and played this improvisation. It sets the mood I believe to encompass the tragedy of Matthew Shephard. For those of you who know the play the music will strike a familiar chord.
Download Appreciation
This is the second song I’ve written on the guitar. The first is still in the process of being recorded. I hope to have them both recorded along with a third soon.
Download Beautiful Day
I recorded this improvisation with thoughts of sunshine and my best friend Bonnie. She has been a real inspiration for my music. I dedicate this one to her.
Download Moving On
Another improvisation in one take. I wrote this with thoughts of moving on from the destructive thoughts of my mind. I mixed the improvisation with a string quartet (added by yours truly one part at a time) Most of it is 3 voices until the ending few chords where 4 can be heard.
Download Living Lost
This improvisation was done during the same time as Moving On. I find it reflects the parts of myself that I’ve been trying to let go of so I can embrace the new life inside myself. It is a bit more hopeful with a feeling of new boundless life. The guitar track was also improvised using a synthesized guitar. I would love to get a real guitar recorded for this piece… any takers?
Download Piano Concerto No. 1: Adagio (Very unfinished)
This piano concerto has an extended violin solo at the very beginning, which may actually turn into a piano quintet piece instead of a concerto for orchestra and solo piano. I wrote this in a very short span of time (about a day) and I improvised the piano part.
Download A Horrible January 22nd Night
This piece was inspired by a good friend of mine: Doug Tetreau. Doug and I got into an argument about my music so I decided to record this while he was in the room. Of course he was watching TV so I had to record with headphones on. He’s never heard the entire recording. This improvisation was inspired by his endless creativity. I will always envy his natural talent to inspire. I dedicate this piece to him.
