Just some food for thought… Every time you find yourself in a situation like the picture above, don’t forget to be thankful. Take time to realize how lucky you are to have even the extra time and resources to enjoy a scone (or whatever you prefer) at a coffee shop… and how lucky you are to be healthy… and how lucky you are to be able to do it again and again…

Here’s a video I watched on Ted that tells you a bit about the importance of seed saving and what lengths people go to to save them.

Finally It’s Over!

Published by Derek under Meditations/Discussions, Personal on January 4, 2010

Just kidding! Well not about the fast being over, because it is. I am only kidding about the exclamation about it being over. I actually am feeling mostly the same physically. Still craving food. Still hungry.

I wanted to point out that this journey is a unique one. In no way will my experience be like anyone else’s. If you do decide to ever fast don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re going to find all the answers to the questions you may or may not have. I actually believe all the answers do come to you, but it has nothing to do with the fast. I believe all the answers are already there waiting for us to understand them. People just see things differently from one another.

I spent the great part of the last 3 days contemplating my fast and especially my food… when am I going to eat next… what will it be… how much should I eat… will I go back to the way I was… is this doing me any good… am I hurting myself… what is the point of it all

I ended up consuming 1 cup of rice, a half cup of kimchi, a gallon of tea each with about a tablespoon of honey in each cup, and lots and lots of water. All this was in the time span of 68 hours, after which I broke my fast with a red pasta dinner (It was delicious). If you want more details feel free to ask.

I hope you all try and take yourselves past your limits of knowledge and experiences often. Wonder keeps us living for tomorrow, but experience keeps us alive.

Anger

Breath in and out.  Deeply and calmly.  Focus your mind on the breath and let the present moment take over your senses.  Love will permeate and enfold you when you are connected to the moment and the breath.  Stay there… breath from there… OMmmmmm…

Is This What Democracy Looks Like?

I really don’t know what to think about this one. I hate it in so many ways… (that I will list below)

1. I hate the authorities. I don’t think they handled it well, but honestly I don’t know how the situation could be handled by authorities.
2. I hate the protesters for not listening to the cops to get off the streets. They should have had a back up plan to walk on the sidewalks off of the streets.
3. Why do cops have the right to stop protests. I truly believe we should have the right to do WHATEVER WE WANT! And if as a community we don’t agree with something that someone else is doing we should focus on stopping that. Anyone wish to discuss?!?!! PLEASE COMMENT!!!!!!!!!

Zeitgeist: Addendum

Published by Derek under Video, Meditations/Discussions, Personal on September 18, 2009

I came across Zeitgeist many years ago and found it to be to apocalyptic; full of propaganda. I understood its insight, yet it was full of hopelessness. Today I was brought back to Zeitgeist by some Couch Surfers who requested to stay here at our home. They have been living at the Venus Project down in Florida which hopes to reshape our world economy to one that uses human potential and relieves us of the slavery from the monetary system set in place.

Before to I had not heard of the “Addendum” so I decided to take a glimpse. I perused the first hour (it having been an overview of the banking system in america which was covered similarly in the original Zeitgeist) to stop and watch the final hour of the film with bated breath. I found it to be an inspiring notion of our future as a species. I think it offers a good look at ourselves and the choices we’ve made. The film is long. But I encourage all of you trapped in the labor system to watch it. I hope you all take some hope with you and make new choices to better our communities and the planet. Enjoy!

I also ask each of you to write a comment about it whether great or small and start a dialog that we can all continue together.
